NSAID

NSAID means Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflamatory Drug.

Examples of NSAID

Ketorolac and Etoricoxib is a common generic of NSAID.

Another NSAID is Aspirin, Celecoxib and others.

Mechanism of Action

NSAID inhibits COX enzyme to reduces the production of prostaglandin synthesis which is responsible to producing pain and inflamation.

Why Using NSAID increases stomach disorder.

Most important physiological role of prostaglandin is protecting stomach. Reduction of prostaglandin synthesis increases stomach risk.

COX enzyme are two in class. COX-1 and COX-2. Both types of COX enzyme produces prostaglandin. But prostaglandin that produces through COX-2 enzyme is responsible for protecting stomach. Because it supports platelet to cloting.

The function of etoricoxib to inhibit COX-2 enzyme.
